I am learning that there is no such thing as a “perfect” day. There are peaks and troughs. Good moments and bad. What determines your day is how you receive those moments and what you do with them.
One of my kids “melted down” on me during our lesson today. The meltdown then required discussion, a listening ear and TONS of patience. I immediately wanted to retreat and throw in the towel for the day. There were still two kids to educate and the baby was napping which made this time gold. Instead I adapted. I left, giving her time to calm down while I moved forward with the others.
During my work with Mary, God gave me a gift. She had an “AHA” moment with her reading! She read for 25 minutes straight and then asked to read again after lunch. The sparkle in her eyes and the excitement she clearly felt was a joy to witness! Life’s small crosses can be draining sometimes, but the victories make it all worth while.
